Sorry for the length of time it has taken for the update. We’ve been busy. After leaving Tioman in early September we met our friends Kelly and Steve in Bangkok before departing on a high-speed 3-week tour through Cambodia and Vietnam. These are a few shots from the floating restaurant that is coincidently at the floating market in Bangkok. |
Our trip from Bangkok to the grubby little town of Poipet on the Cambodian border was a snap by train. From there we took yet another of our endless array of crazy South East Asian taxi rides to our ultimate destination: Battambang. Even though it has the distinction of being the second largest city in Cambodia, Battambang actually reminded me of Fresno in the 70's – a two-storey town of wide dusty sidewalks surrounded by over farmed land for as far as the eye can see. Helen and I didn't really connect to Battambang. I even forgot to take pictures. |
The morning after our arrival the four of us set out for Siem Reap, the home of Angkor Wat. Now comes the silver lining of Battambang. The Stung Sap River flows through the middle of town connecting to the Tonle Sap Lake in turn connecting to the port villlage just 10 km south of Siem Reap. It was an 8-hour slow boat ride that was one of the most amazing journeys in our last year-and-a-half on the road. We just went through one floating village after another. |
